“Life, a never-ending learning experience”

In Tunisia, at the age of six, our parents take us to school to learn. But the process of learning has already started since our birth. When we are born, we learn to live outside the womb. Since then, we started to learn how to sit down, how to walk, and how to talk. Then, we learn how to behave with our siblings, how to behave in school with our colleagues and teachers. After completing high school and being separated from our parents, Life takes the lead and teaches us new lessons.

After succeeding in the Baccalaureate, I chose to join the army as a midshipman. I learned a lot from this experience, it was really tough but I survived. After completing the preparatory cycle in the academy, I decided to resign from the army and join Esprit. I was forced to work so I can finance my studies. So, I started working 2 jobs at the same time, and here Life came with a lot of its lessons. The fact that being apart from my parents, living alone, and taking care of myself grew my sense of responsibility. Working 2 jobs at the same time was such a struggle. Spending more than 15 hours at work, resisting its tiredness, hearing my colleagues complaining about work while I have 2 jobs made me know my capacities and that that suffering will come to an end.

Sometimes, life makes us learn either the easy way or the hard way but in either way, all the lessons are worth learning. In fact, what does not kill us makes us stronger and the mistakes that we make are a guidance for us to know what is the right thing to do. Al Franklen says: “Mistakes are a part of being human. Appreciate your mistakes for what they are: precious life lessons that can only be learned the hard way.”

We do not learn only in school. Life lessons are the most valuable ones and the experiences that we go through are what make us who we are. So, as much as we go after our dreams and live life to the fullest, we learn from life and we know people who educate us and guide us to do the right thing. I learned a lot from my boss at the restaurant. He was a skilled, smart businessman. He knows how to communicate with customers, how to plan for his business, and how to treat his subordinates. After work, I used to talk to him about my plans and he always gave me pieces of advice. This experience empowered me and I am grateful for that. Anna Taylor says: “Some people arrive and make such a beautiful impact on your life, you can barely remember what life was like without them.” This proves that Life teaches us from the persons that we cross through our journey so we have to be careful when choosing our closest ones.

Even when being an elder person, life has the last chapter to teach which is accepting death. In fact, it needs enough maturity to assume that we are leaving this globe to go somewhere else. This is where Life stops teaching us and leave the lead to something else that we do not know until we experience it.

Life can be tough on us sometimes and it can be nice to us too but we have to live it to the fullest to build our personality and learn from it day after day.

“Life is about experience… you can’t hold onto everything.” — Sarah Addison Allen
